New beginnings and forever home
New beginnings and forever home
Bali was in shock and seemed to be drifting in and out. His eyes were not focused and there was blood dripping from his distorted face. We held him gently in a towel and spoke to him to keep him awake.
When we got to the vet hospital we didn't know what to expect. We were pumped full of adrenaline and holding tears back from the idea that someone could intentionally throw a kitten into traffic.
After they did an exam, they advised the initial surgery will cost anywhere between $1200 - $1600. The front desk receptionist asked if we wanted to turn the kitten over to them or accept responsibility for its medical bills.
My partner looked at me and asked if I wanted to still go on our trip out of the country this year or save this kitten.... my response was "It looks like we aren't going to London this year".

The vet tech brought us into the back to give Bali our love before going into surgery. At this time, we found out he was only 4 weeks old.
Keep in mind this was Mother's Day Sunday and we had reservations with our moms this afternoon. As we were sitting in the waiting area we are not only concerned about our new friend but also two mothers who are expecting meet our time frame.
This is one of the many reasons why we celebrate Mothers, they are patient when their children block freeways to save a kitten.
Bali went into surgery for a lip evulsion and fractured jaw. The vet explained she had not repaired an evulsion on a kitty this small before, but would do her best to figure out a successful result. Following surgery, she reported she was able to suture the lip but was not able to address the jaw due to his size. Since Bali was so small, they did not have a cone to fit him so they were able to make one out of a dixie cup!
When we picked Bali up from surgery the vet staff had kindly donated a cardboard box they had left over from their Jimmy John's lunch delivery for us to take him home in. Ironically, the side of the box said "Handle with care."
At this point Bali was heavily sedated, in a daze and still in shock. We took him home and set him up safely and comfortably in our guest bathroom with a cozy bed and pheromone diffuser to calm his nerves. Finally, Bali was able to get some rest from the big day.
